CITY'S SPACE
City‘s space is one of its biggest values, however, it is also a challenge in the process of economic development and creation of place’s image. City’s space plays a major role in the tourist industry, as well as in the assessment of the quality of life and the evaluation of the attractiveness of the investment offer. Gdynia Development Agency as a company, which introduces assumptions on the City’s Strategy, aims at active participation in concept processes, supporting also planning activities or environmental advice.
INSPIRATIONS AND PHILOSOPHY
With more than 80 years of history - Gdynia - “the city from sea and dreams” is definitely a proof of modern polish planning idea of the second Republic of Poland. Nowadays as most the cities in Poland, Gdynia experiences dynamic changes and transformations at the same time facing future management and revaluation of extensive post-industry areas (incl. post-harbor and post-railway infrastructure areas) as well as re-exploitation of some districts and recreational areas.
AGENCY’S OFFER CONCERNING CITY’S SPACE
- Organisation of problem-conceptual workshops with participation of town-planners, architects and marketing of place experts from Gdynia, Poland and Europe.
- Individual concept and pre-concept projects concerning chosen areas of the city, including those most important to the city’s image creation - prestige zones, attractions and specialties of the region, the so-called tourist landmarks.
- Complex programs concerning strategy - proposals of tightly integrated activities including the raise of esthetical and image values of the city’s space, crucial for the development of urban cultural tourist product.
AGENCY’S ACTIVITIES CONCERNING THE CITY’S SPACE
- Cooperation with the Land Use Planning Bureau, especially in defining the city’s space for recreational, leisure and cultural purposes (tourist investments, areas for outdoors sports, leisure and cultural activity) as well as for general vision of a city which is town-dweller-friendly, and attractive for tourists and artists at the same time.
- Participation in the work of project teams, focusing on the concept of the transformation of the so-called problematic areas of the city, which include the areas threatened with material and social degradation.
- Honing Gdynia’s reputation as a well-planned city and active, innovative processes of changing the city’s space, which would make visitors refer to Gdynia as an attractive place to live, relax, run a business and enjoy cultural activities.
- Generating proposals – ideas, consisting of activities such as place’s catalysts and acupuncture of problematic city spaces.

- Panel - “City’s space”, with the participation of distinguished town-planners and architects from Poland, and foreign guests, including Mr. Henning Thomsen from the well-known Danish company Gehl Architects who conducted a presentation “Places for People” as well as Mr. David Karasek - one of the most significant Czech designers (urban furniture), together with Radek Hegmon - the main designer and co-founder of the mmcite a.s. company.
- Panel included discussions planned in each of the three blocks, conducted by Mr. Michal Stangel
